Some of these these stories have been moved from WORKS IN PROGRESS.  There are now enough shtetel stories to warrant a separate internet book, and we understand that Philip will be concentrating on more shtetel stories in the near future.  It is suggested that the viewer bookmark this site and browse it periodically as new stories will generally be added without notice. Two stories from Phillip's 1997 book: SHAFTS OF LIGHT have been reproduced in this e-book under the titles: Grandfather and Pogram

Dr. Talanda is mentioned in two of these stories: Talanda and Vegetarian. Subsequent to the posting of the Talanda story,  Dr. Jan Bibel, being curious, used google.com to search the web for any references to the name: Talanda.  She found a genealogical web site in which there was a posting for the name Talanda, seeking any information about the family origins.  The inquirer mentioned that her grandfather had been born in Sherbershin  (Szczebrzeszyn spelled in the Polish format), the shtetel of these stories. Needless to say that after Jan's initial contact there have been many e-mails between Philip and the Talanda family.  Please see the story:  21st Century.

The newest storys posted are : "Beth Olim" and "The Last Jew" - See Table of Contents at left)
